Easy mode is NOT easy

So there are four different difficulty settings. I'm getting slower in my old age but I still love to play video games, so I chose the easy difficulty. The one that says for players who DONT want a gameplay challenge.  There's been several occasions where I come to meet an enemy that completely annihilates me, over and over and over. The valkyrie on muspelheim, wolvers in general, and most of all, the one that I have not been able to beat for 2 days now, the one that has killed me over 100 times, the valkyrie Queen. And after all that practice of dying over and over, I can't even get her to halfway. I have no problem with video games being difficult I understand that that's part of the fun. But then why have an easy setting? If you just want all of the difficulties to be really hard why have any different settings at all. I wanted to experience the game without a challenge. Which what easy mode was supposed to provide. It fails miserably to do this. It's way way way too hard. and before there's a bunch of comments telling me to get good, please go away. That's why I chose the easy difficulty. Does anybody else have this problem with the valkyrie Queen? She seems to be way way too hard. So much harder than everything else in the game it's absurd. And remember we're talking about EASY difficulty. It's supposed to be EASY!

  • I have to agree, easy mode isn't THAT easy. I'm having difficult mainly when hordes of enemies comes, specially after the floating boat part in helheim that is when things start to get very difficult. Now i'm at Tyr's Temple inside Hall of Tyr and i could get to break the two chains, but the rotating fire spouts with hordes of enemies is very difficult.

The easy difficulty description (must be something like "just for the history" in english, i Play in portuguese) is not really accurate. You will die frequently in the last stages of the game, even in that mode i'm afraid.

  • I usually play easy mode every game i get to get a feel of movement, combat, etc... This game sorta reminds me of Bloodborne that while you choose give me a story doesnt mean the mobs are weaker/less effective than they would at a higher difficulty.

I am 71, my reflexes have slowed, and have never played any God Of War games. I have played The Last Of Us, Beyond Two Souls, Fallout 3 & 4, all four Mass Effect games. The glowing reviews and the fact this game has an Easy mode was the deciding factor for me buying it. I have not yet started playing it yet. I read a post where the Author, a Gaming Reviewer, wrote of Ten Things I Wish I Knew When I Started 'God of War'. There may be a tip for you there, if you have not progressed too far. • ive beaten the game on hard. bumped on the muspelhime and nilfheim chalenges so ive lowered the difficulty to the lowest for those. but i must addmit that the valkirye queen is quite difficult even on this setting. The rest of the game is beatable on hard, it just takes longer to kill an enemy and they are more difficult to full the stun bar. My tips for the valkirye is just try to study her moves she is easy to read and after some time u will know what she tries to do and it will be yeaser to defeat her. good luck.

  • I was enjoying the game so much on the easiest setting till I came across Geridriful, I just keep dying even though most my weapons and armour are at level 5 and I have the rage of fire (or whatever it is called) 2 weeks on and still can not kill her, I went back to a trader and sold everything and built my power up to what I could and still no luck, I can not move to other parts of the map to get more xp/coins to build up more power, so im stuck, it has spoiled the game for me :( I wish I could move on.

I agree 100%. I finally just quit playing and will likely never finish it. If nothing else, I learned a hard lesson to not assume I will enjoy a game just because it has universally glowing reviews.

  • Easy dificulty is not too bad. You will die, but checkpoints and auto saves make the game easy to work with. I honestly felt GoW Ascension was harder back when it came out. otherwise, this game is simple and you just gotta utilize Atreus to interrupt opponents who are hitting you, and I felt that the Valkyries were tough regardless. I beat the game on Normal, then again on Easy. Still died a lot, but it did not bother me.

Upgrade your weapons and skills. And don’t engage Valkyries unless you’re level 6. Valkyries are optional. You can do ‘em later after finishing the final boss. While fighting Valkyries, be patient and try to learn their moves so you can dodge them. Also maximize your rage and health by unlocking those chests. Buy some resurrection stones too so you can come back once you’re killed by a Valkyrie. Personally I’ll say leave Valkyries for the end. This is how this game works. They want you to do everything first so you can upgrade you weapons and stats. Once you’re done with that you’ll find Valkyries easy to kill. Also Atreus’s bows helps a lot in killing Valkyries. Once a Valkyrie is in air, use his bows and throw your axe at her. She’ll cancel her attack.

  • I finished god of war not long ago. Got over 90 percent of the trophies, including the defeat all Valkyries trophy. Truthfully the only enemy in the game that gave me any real trouble is the queen Valkyrie, she's something straight out of dark souls. I'm not sure how many times I died, but it was enough that I was on the verge of pulling my hair out. When I finally got her my health was at about 2% and I just barely managed to survive.

The thing that helped me was I bought and used a resurrection stone for when i did die. I had completely forgotten that they were in the game until I read about them on another post.
