Is it me, or is it damn near impossible to play this game solo?

Got the game about a week ago on my vita (loveing it so far, could use some minor tweaks) but sometimes no internet and I try to play solo, and holy cow, is it impossible! Lol anyways, co op play is fun and awesome, the teamwork is what keeps the fun Alive also..

In my experience, on Vita the game is harder than on PS4 or Steam (due to lower frames and more difficult controls and less screen real estate). That said solo really isn't harder than co-op except during the Retaliatory Strikes. Regardless, for my taste, the game is best played with others.

When playing solo on Vita, I would say focus on stealth tactics if you are finding the game too hard. Once you get more comfortable and your skills start to improve, it will get continually easier.

Welcome to Helldivers! For solo, you will likely need to upgrade some key weapons.

If you've just started for a week, you probably have the breaker which is very useful. You need anti-tank like upgraded vindicators.

You can try distractor beacons as decoys until you get better.

Try stealth as @cusman mentioned and dont try to kill everything as they will respawn. Certain enemies like IFVs are better kept in a damaged state to avoid additional respawing. Use static fields to incapacitate heavy enemies... often defend objectives are about delay tactics rather than high enemy kill counts. Throw down some NUXs as a decoy... dogs and grunts get distracted by them...

Start on lower difficulty levels and see if you can complete those before moving to higher levels.

I play on vita as well, I'm pretty jealous of our ps4 helldivers. The grenades are a pain to use due to the control scheme, is one example of our troubles, don't get me started on the lag issues. Though I said once before, just because vita players play differently, it doesn't mean we aren't capable of kicking alien butt

  • I mostly play on the Vita (and I sometimes play on the PS4) and I am up to level 31.
I can play solo up to Hard or Very Hard on bugs without an issue.
Once you have upgraded your equipment and learnt which strategems to use, it becomes easier.

  • I've anaged up to Level 10 solo against the cyborgs and the bugs, it' a pain in the ass if you don' really know what you're doing but it's best to take the stealthy approach/quickly eliminate any scouts you run across. It will probably take at least 20min to solo one and relies on various DLC items but at the end you can get a ton of samples, xp and perhaps a shiny new stratagem. I usually load out with a Laser weapon primary with a hefty number of upgrades either the Trident shotgun or the Sickle carbine, they are silent so shooting won't  attract patrols and they theoretically don't run out of ammo preferably with at least three upgrades to boost firepower and "ammo capacity". As for Stratagem's; my two cornerstones are the Mk3 Minigun turret (I dub this the "Murder Machine") for assistance on QTE objectives and covering your extraction or perhaps covering a hasty escape and the UAV drone preferably a Mk3 one as well as it not only allows for extended detection ranges for patrols but spotting hidden objectives and samples. Third is an Anti-tank stratagem, I recommend a EAT-17 disposable launcher, though this can be swapped out for satchel charges if there are destruction objectives (or personal preference) or if you don' mind not having a free back slot; either the recoilless launcher/Mk3 Commando (has to be Mk3 as its the only version with Anti-tank warheads. Next choose a perk and a fourth stratagem that synergizes well with each other (i prefer the SH-32 directional shield and the auto injector). Hopefully with a bit of skill and luck you will succeed with this load ut but keep in mind this relies heavily on DLC to make the most of this strategy but the basic principles apply.
