My ps4 says my headset disconnected but i have no headset

So while playing my ps4 pro will sometimes flash the charge of my controller with a headset icon on the screen then say my headset disconnected but i have no head set plugged in. The only one i use is the tritton ark 100 and it goes into the controller. No wireless interface at all. The first time this happened i un plugged my usb charger from the controller and it fixed it. The second time it just fixed itself. Now my concern comes from this is my second ps4 pro. The first had the powerdown problem and got it swapped out. But my first one did this, though then i had a head set plugged in and it asked " who is using this" so my grand question is. Is this a precursor to my current ps4 pro having the same powerdown problem or is it a simple of a fix as charge it from the wall not the console?

Thanks in advance!

  • I'm having the exact same issue. Randomly says "headset disconnected" and I don't use any headset or headphones... What's the deal?

  • Sony won't answer you. This is a known bug since 2014 but Sony is hoping that no one will notice. I did and bought an Xbox one.

  • Yes, same problem here.  It is hardly a reason to buy an XBOX (go away, troll) but it is annoying all the same.  Any solution yet, please let me know.

  • I've had some similar issues.  Even had the device menu pop up saying who is using this (headset) but i only use the headphone port on my controller. We have more hen one ps4 i tried a different controller and didn't have issues until i switched back. But i also notice the problem only seems to happen when the controller is connected via usb to charge while using Bluetooth connections.

I'm also having a 2nd issue that's leading me to think these controllers break as easy as a iphone's screen.  My L2 is making left stick input. I think its a sign of the controller shorting out.

  • Did anyone find a solution to this problem? I am now also having it.

  • At this rate, I'm wondering if this problem will ever be fixed or not. It may not happen that often for me, but it's still more frequent than never.

Edit: So, you know how I said it wasn't super frequent for me or whatever? It basically happens roughly 3-7 times a day for me now, on days where I actually play on my PS4. (Keep in mind, my play sessions are often across hours. I think it's like once every 45 minutes or so, but maybe not to the exact minute.)

  • Happens to me ALL the time. When I DO have my headset connected, often times my ps4 will bug out and take me to the user login screen.

  • Stop it by going into settings>devices>audio devices and uncheck the box by "Switch output device automatically".This will stop the bug. 💖

  • Nope doesnt work. even if you uncheck switch output device automatically, it still keeps happening. i even reset my controller and it still happens.

  • Samething happened to me too and all I did was buy a dust sprayer and blew out the USB ports in the front of the PS4 and I haven’t had a problem for 2 weeks now. Hope this helps

  • Re: TZABAOTH -- That won't work. While it's true that "headset" generally indicates output audio, the second error that comes up sooner after is about the microphone, which is input audio.  For me is only connected through the PlayStation Camera, and that's muted, so nothing at all should be triggering the console to get this message.  Nonetheless, it still occurs as of this writing -- Dec. 19, 2018.  This is amateur hour kinda crap.  Sony is usually better than this, but it seems like such a simple thing to remove, that actually gets in the way of the game at times.

This must be happening to more of us, without them complaining.  I've had this console for four years now, and I'm just now complaining about it.  It's not a huge, game breaking problem, but when it happens every time I play, which it does lately (twice today, in fact), ya begin to wonder if Sony even cares about these things.  I'm literally not doing anything to cause it, and they've had complaints for how long, now?

  • It's almost 2019, and not only am I still having it happen to me, but I think it might be more common than ever. Maybe 1-3 times every 20 minutes. I swear, if this is still an issue on the PS5... I'll probably still buy one, but I'll be angry.

I too am getting the "headset disconnected" notification even though I don't have a headset plugged in. It seems to only do this when I have my controller connected to my USB charging cable (connected to one of the front USB ports).

  • I'm having the same issue as well, but it does it at least 20 times an hour...quite unplayable at this point, just started yesterday. Cant find a place to contact support without having to call them. Anyone have a fix, or know if it's being worked on?

  • Please make sure a thread is current/active before responding and necrobumping which is against the forum rules.

  • Used duster and it went away for along time. At least 3 months. Now it happens every 5 minutes if my controller is plugged in while playing. Duster did not work this time. I'm assuming there's still no fix?

Either help, or shove off. For people who are having a similar issue (such as me), this can be beneficial to know that people are still currently having this issue. No one cares about if the post is old: it's still relevant. No one cares about you either. This is about people finding answers and recognizing that there are still people affected recently.

  • Arayalioness    As I said, necroposting is against the forum rules. I didn't make the rules; Sony did. People often post to these thread needlessly, becasue the solutions has been supplied in posts they didn't bother to read. As for "shoving off", we all will be in two weeks.
