PS4 Pro Samsung U28D590D... No 4K over HDMI

Samsung 28” 4K UHD Monitor

Model Number LU28D590DS/ZA

Resolution ? UHD (3840x2160)

Refresh Rate 60Hz

Have PS4 Pro connected directly with provided HDMI cable and 2160p options are stilled greyed out even after changing settings in Safe Mode. Same for both HDMI ports.

Maybe Sony will have an update that supports more 4K TVs/Monitors?

This display can do 4k at 60 Hz through DisplayPort, but this monitor's HDMI is an older version 1.4, that limit 4k to 30 Hz?

PS4 pro HDMI 2.0 can output 4k at 60 hz, but not 30 hz? Some apps also need HDCP 2.2 to output 4k. PS4 Pro don't have DisplayPort output, sorry. PS4 Pro do have improvements to new games at 1080p, and can do 1080p recording, 1080p live streaming, 1080p remote play.

  • Right now there is a bug that prevents the PS4 Pro from outputting in 4K to via HDMI 1.4. Supposedly it will be fixed via an upcoming software patch, but no word on when that will be.

I just picked up a PS4 Pro tonight and was hoping to play on my 4k monitor :( Does anyone know if using a hdmi to display port would allow it to display in 4k?

  • What is hdcp?

  • It should be somehow relating to coding protection for HDMI 2.0.

I've browsed some troubleshooting source which said that by switching to PS4 PRO safe mode and change the HDCP setting to 1.4, it should be working for at least showing gaming resolution at 4k 30Hz.

Im also a U28D590D user and just got a pro today and will try tonight.  Hope this soultion will work...

HDCP is High Definition Content Protection.

This can be turned off in PS4 Settings, System, Enable HDCP.

If you cannot get 4k output at all, and this monitor allows DisplayPort, it might require "HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort 1.2" for 4k 2160p at 60 Hz, for 4k Monitors that can only do 4k at 60 Hz on DisplayPort. Be sure to look for the correct converter direction, HDMI 2.0 input, DisplayPort output. I don't think such a device exists for 4k 2160p 60 Hz  yet, it might show up soon in a few months so check back on this search a month later.

  • The solution is connect you hdmi cabel to HDMI 2 on monitor. For some stupid reason HDM 1 connector of the monitor is HDCP 1.4 only compatible (working 30Hz only). But second HDMI 2 connctor is HDCP 2.0 compartible and working 4k@60Hz.
