Give a Game as a Gift

I apologize in advance for being clueless about how things work, but I need help.

I've purchased a game which I want to give as a Christmas gift. I don't have a console, but I set up an account and made the purchase. I can see it in my Downloads list. Now I somehow need to permit my giftee to access the download. Can't find any info about how to do this.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

You can't gift games, once you purchase it, it's linked to your account, if you wanted to give them a gift, it would have been better buy PSN cards, and  give them that so they can purchase the game on their own account.

  • You should ask the question before you buy. If the game hasn't been downloaded, call customer service for a refund. Then follow chaos_789's advice, or just buy a disc.

  • I do not understand why people pick out games for other people. Buy a PSN card/code and let them choose. If they know what game someone wants, buy a PSN card/code that will cover the purchase amount of the game. I have received games as gifts (disc copies, obviously) that I already own. What a waste.

  • The price of the game goes up after Dec 3rd so that is the reason for the purchase of the game rather than PSN card (and it is already know which game is wanted). Is there a another way to get the game other than downloading it now (before Christmas) on his console? The Ultimate Edition doesn't seem to come in a disc version.

  • Other sources will not nessesarily have the same pricing as PSN, But PSN is not nessesarily the cheapest to begin with. Try Amazon.com. They sell digital codes for games. Just make sure it's for the right region.

  • @ Brises   I don't believe Sony is allowing digital game codes to be sold any longer. I just checked Amazon and I only see PSN card codes and Plus codes. All the games are disc copies.

  • If you check the box on the left that says "Digital Download" a num.ber of games come up listed as "digital code". But not every game. The OP did not say what game he is interested it.

  • @ Brises  Interesting -- I only see two digital items there. These are "Digital Educational Resources" and "Digital Music". I wonder why there's a difference? Some one said (and it may have been an MVP) on another thread that Sony/PSN doesn't allow the sale of digital game codes any more. I was checking Amazon to see if this was correct. I don't remember what thread, but I'm fairly certain it was an MVP.

  • Well I've seen some games and dlc on the site. So that's from the source.

  • I believe Sony announced back in March, as of April 1st retailers could no longer sell PS4 full game digital download codes. I don't believe add-ons, or season passes were affected

It's sort of ironic Sony chose that particular date as the starting point, retailers probably thought it was some sort of April Fools prank lol.
